Battery Guardian can also add an event to your calendar to remind you. This can be particularly useful because the calendar can be shared across all your devices. A quick look at your calendar from any device, will let you know if your laptop battery is due for attention.
How Battery Guardian Works
When running, Battery Guardian shows a heart in the top-right of your screen. Every 30 days the heart turns red to indicate your battery needs depleting.
The heart turns red to warn you…
…disconnect the power supply and wait. After depleting…
Deplete your battery and Battery Guardian’s heart will automatically return to normal; 30 days later the heart will turn red again.
…Battery Guardian automatically goes green after depleting.
Automatic: If you deplete your battery before the 30 days are up, Battery Guardian will notice and will adjust the next reminder automatically.
At any time, click on the heart to show how many days are left before depleting the battery is needed.

If you see three full stars then you know your battery is healthy. But if you see one star or a warning, then it is time to visit an Apple Store for help.

Extending Your Battery Life
You spent a lot of hard earned money on your computer; doing the right thing for your computer’s battery will help keep your computer running longer. A good routine will also keep you from needing to replace your computer’s battery for a long time yet.
Why Deplete?
What does depleted mean? Your battery is depleted when it has been used from full charge all the way down to empty.
Apple’s advice to MacBook owners is to deplete the battery about once a month. This makes sure the battery lasts as long as possible:
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her notebook on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing.
Avoid leaving your laptop always connected to the power supply. This will shorten the life of your battery.
