Hi All,

My G4 (running Panther with latest update) has suddenly developed a problem whereby I cannot wake it from its slumber via the mouse or keyboard.

Under Energy Saver, I had it set to sleep around about 15 mins, turn off monitor @redacted.invalid 10 mins, also putting HDDs to sleep as well. I had one of the default os x screensavers kick in at 3 minutes.

This all worked as it should, then suddenly along came the problem where it would not wake up at all, the only option (that I know of) is to restart the comp via the power button.

At first I thought it might be related to my having both keyboard & mouse plugged into a PCI USB card, however the same problem exists if I plug 'em into the original USB ports. The problem has developed some time after I installed the PCI USB card, so I tend to discount that.

Its a pretty clean install, very few proggies installed at this stage. A few Usenet clients, and Firefox... thats about it, aside from Shapeshifter trial, which I have not actually used, as it doesnt seem to do a whole lot for some reason... and I couldnt be bothered nutting out that problem at this point in time! So despite it being installed, I am using the default appearance of Panther. But of all the changes I have made to the system, I suspect Shapeshifter the most... even though I am fairly sure the problem did not develop as soon as shapeshifter was installed.

Does this sound like a familiar problem? I am still a Mac newbie... I am hoping its something well know or otherwise obvious!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

An update: I thought the 10.3.9 update had been installed... it hadnt :) Anyway, the above problem seems to have dissapeared...

Now I have a new problem since installing the update... more of an annoyance really - When browsing the LAN, I now need to 'select a share to mount'. Did not have to do this prior to the update... I just went where I wanted without any hindrances. Its extremely annoying, as there are about 20 drives on the network. Every time I want to enter one, I now have to mount the thing. Seems unnecessary and time wasting.

Is there a way I can return it to a sensible way of browsing the network?

Thnx
