I had my fan die in my G4 533 and I take the power suppy out of my computer in the hopes that I could replace the fan.

I got all of the screws out of the power supply and tried to take it apart But the thing is being held together with a metal tab or something has anyone out there done this and managed to take it apart/

I hope you know there could be a huge voltage in it, EVEN UNPLUGGED.

I never mess with power supplies.

Have you already bought a new fan? If not, you might want to just replace the whole power supply. You can usually get them for dirt cheap off of eBay. Typically power supplies are not built to be user serviceable, hence the reason you can't open it up.

I have not had a Mac power supply apart in years, but, lots of PC supplies.

Usually, the metal halves snap together and are then held together by screws.

So you have the screws out, now you just have to apply some force to unsnap the two halves.
