I have an odd one: Whenever I wake my iMac Flat-panel 800MHz, running 10.2.6, I'm greeted by a grey screen if it's been asleep for any length of time. Overnight, I'm guaranteed to get it. If I put it to sleep and wake it up a few minutes later, it wakes fine. I have to power-key it to shut it down and reboot it. I tried logging out and putting it to sleep; it made no difference -- still had the grey screen on wakeup in the morning.
Any ideas? Would a system reinstall help? (This machine originally shipped with 10.1.2, and then incrementally updated to 10.2.6.) Classic isn't running. I have a Kensington Optical Elite mouse and a Dazzle CompactFlash reader plugged into the original Apple keyboard. An Epson C82 is plugged into another USB port on the back.

Does it do it when on 9.2? Does it do it when you don't have any of the non-stock stuff plugged in? In the pc world, this kind of stuff often happens when a device driver was poorly written and doesn't properly respond to the sleep or wake-up commands.

For anyone interested, the problem seems to be the Dazzle USB CompactFlash reader I had plugged through the keyboard. For now, I'm leaving it disconnected unless I'm using it; I may experiment later and see if it works OK directly into the Mac. But in any case, it's waking reliably now. Whew. :-)
