I need some help for a friend. He has a 3-year old iMac, 233 MHz, OS 9.0.4, 64 MB RAM.

He cannot wake the system from sleep, ever.

Although I think this problem has been treated here before, it has not caught my attention until now. I'd appreciate your help.

Try pulling the keyboard/mouse usb cable out of the iMac and then plug it in again after about 5-10 seconds. This might reinit the usb devices so that he can then wake up the iMac.

I've had that problem on my 1999 iMac DV. The only solution I found was reinstalling MacOS and even that was not 100% effective.

My computer came with OS 9 and of course, being a new computer, I tended to "break" it often :) When I reinstalled OS 9, sometimes the iMac wouldn't wake up from sleep.

With 9.2.1, I think there's still "issues". eg. My computer doesn't even go to sleep now. I haven't tried forcing it to sleep because it might not wake up.

Also, I noticed that some apps would make the computer not wake up. The worst offender was AppleWorks. I never got my computer to wake up after it went to sleep with AppleWorks running.

Anyway, I use OS X now, and everything works fine.
