Keyboard shortcut for Shut Down or Restart?

Since this update you have to hold the key down for several seconds.

They added the delay because people were ejecting CDs and DVDs when they hit the key accidentally.

That was certainly true here. As a result I'd got into the habit of leaving the CD tray open when not in use.

For me the pause is more like a fraction of a second rather than several seconds. Does this perhaps vary that much from system to system? I'm running on a MacBook Pro with Intel Core Duo.

So is there a keyboard shortcut for Shut Down or Restart?
Control+Eject doesn't work on mine. I was wondering if it works on most newer PPC Macs? I'm using a 1.25ghz Mini and other keyboard shortcuts in other programs are a little screwy so it might be that I need to reinstall.

Control-Eject Restart / Sleep / Shutdown dialog box Control-Command-Eject Quite all applications and restart

OK - my machine is nuts. Re-install is in the works. Thanks.

Yes I did. Haven't noticed anything different afterward. But I should have mentioned I'm not using an Apple keyboard. Its a Microsoft 4000 ergo with no Eject button. Can I map some key or key combination to Eject? Or only to a specific Application?

The shutdown dialog key for you is Scroll Lock. No lag.

Eject is F12. With a delay. Control F12 will also bring up the shutdown dialog.

Kind regards,
