OS 9.0 conflict: Energy Saver freezes, culprit=AfterDark

We are having what appears to be a conflict caused by AfterDark4.0. After a semi-crash, in which we partially re-installed OS9.0, we re-set an AfterDark screen saver which had worked fine previously. This time it seemed to be causing hang-ups (as I've had it do on other Macs before), so I shut it off in it's Control Panel and also turned off it's extension. But.......... now the Energy Saver Control Panel will not open and freezes the system each time we try. Other control panels work fine. It's logical, though, that AfterDark might conflict with Energy Saver since both are related to similar functions.

How can I best get the Energy Saver to work again? Disk Doctor and Disk First Aid have had no effect.

Thanks.

AfterDark was an iffy option in OS8, It's rather outstayed it's welcome on OS9, I'm surprised you even got it to work this long.

You could try simply deleting some prefs files (System Folder/Preferences). For a start delete Finder Prefs, and then any that you can see relate to screen savers or Energy Saver and restart the Mac. Remove AfterDark too, it is not compatible with OS 9, and has always been a source of terrible conflicts.
