OS9 conflict in Energy Saver

I am having having what appears to be a conflict originally caused by AfterDark4.0. After a semi-crash, in which we partially re-installed OS9.0, we re-set an AfterDark screen saver which had worked fine previously. This time it seemed to be causing hang-ups (as I've had it do on other Macs before), so I shut it off in it's Control Panel and also turned off it's extension. But.......... now the Energy Saver Control Panel will not open and freezes the system each time we try. Other control panels work fine. It's logical, though, that AfterDark might conflict with Energy Saver since both are related to similar functions.

How can I best get the Energy Saver to work again? Disk Doctor and Disk First Aid have had no effect. would it do any good to un-install all the Afterdark files? Is there a way to download a re-install just for Energy Saver?

Thanks.

try deleting Energy Saver Preferences Diskwarrior might also be more useful than Disk Doctor and Disk First Aid

Trashed both the Energy aver and Finder Prefs, then re-started........ NO CHANGE. Energy Saver opens a menu bar, then freezes.

In your original post, you said you're running OS 9.0. Update that to 9.1. Also, get rid of After Dark. Yes, I know, you said it had previously been running fine under 9.0, but that was shear luck, as for most people 8.6 was the last Mac OS under which AD ran with anything resembling stability, so it was an accident waiting to happen.

Thanks a lot. Updating to OS9.1 resolved the problem.
