Powerbook PRAM batteries

Apple don't appear to sell them, and OtherWorld Computing (usually a reliable guide) list nothing newer than a battery for the Titanium 500.

I've been trying to track down a new PRAM battery for a FW800 Powerbook (1.25GHz). What's the story with these? Apple don't appear to sell them, and OtherWorld Computing (usually a reliable guide) list nothing newer than a battery for the Titanium 500. I really don't fancy buying something of dubious provenance off eBay.

Surely there's a way of getting hold of new PRAM batteries? There must be plenty of Powerbooks of this vintage (3-4 years) needing one.

Have you tried Malcom at www.pbfanatic.co.uk ?

There are, and they work out at £70 all in from VIS.

I can get hold of a used one, works out @redacted.invalid £40. Comes with a 3month warranty.

Used, though, and they've been out of stock since I first checked weeks ago.

No, but I thought he only dealt in used stuff?

Ah, thanks. £51 + VAT though! Seems a little, um, 'extortionate' is probably the word I'm looking for.

Thanks Jon. Not sure at the moment whether the extra £20 or so for a new one would be justified. Is that the whole assembly or just the battery itself?

Have you tried Malcom at www.pbfanatic.co.uk ?

No, but I thought he only dealt in used stuff?

I emailed him a couple of days ago about a Pismo PRAM battery - which he has new from stock.

So definitely worth asking.

Pismo's newertech now do copies, which you can get about half the price of new ones for the Alu's.

Where can you buy in the UK? - shipping from the US doubles the price of the battery.

ok, thanks. The main battery needs replacing anyway, so given the cost of the PRAM battery, I think I'll do the main one first, just in case the date/time misbehaviour I'm seeing is a side-effect of it being knackered. If not, I'll probably come back to you for the PRAM battery.

Thanks to all for help.
