Went into panic mode this afternoon. The screen of my iMacG5 suddenly went very dim. So dim that I could barely make out the scrren to turn up the brightness control to maximum in System Preferences. Doing so mad very little difference. So I switched the machine off )for practically the first time since I bought it 2 months ago) and I switched it back on, all was well.
Can anyone comment on this please? Is it a known problem?

Devi, would you say that the screen might have been dimmer in one half than the other? Anyhow, yes, this is a known problem, you'll find lots of discussion of it on the iMac G5 discussion board at Apple, I've seen it myself.

However, I have not seen it (knock on melamine) since the day I opened my iMac G5 and pressed the SMU button. m.

Well, ish. The upper half was a bit dimmer than the lower, but the difference was gradual rather than demarcated. I wonder if it's related to something that happens when I bring it back from sleep: the screen 'scrolls' bright, then blue, then bright again? Anyway, I'll look in on the G5 support group as you suggest.
