Beige G3 start's up on own

   Beige g3 running 9.2.2 with 384 megs, 16mg ATI card, Adatepc 2930, USB card & 3 internal drives (2 scsi conected to the Adaptec Card ann 1 ATA on the internal bus)

   The computer initally began restarting on it's own. It would just be sitting there and suddenly restart and refuse to shutdown. would have to pull the plug on it to turn it off. Now the machine only occasionally starts up. pushing the button on the keyboard does nothing and the button on the machine sometimes works. When it does come on, it begins powering up, but after 5 seconds or so, it's shuts off and then tries to power up again.

   Tried the CUDA button.
   Zapped PRAM
   Removed PCI cards
   removed drives
   replaced battery.

   it's still doing power cycling when turning on. anyone have any ideas?

   Replace the power supply. From the sounds of it, your machine is well loaded, power-wise, and something inside the PSU is starting to die (most likely the first stage ballast capacitors) and bcause of this the total power output level has dropped. Once a device pulls a little bit more power to force the PSU over its new lowered tolerance level, it will re-set.

   Shot in the dark: Bad keyboard? (especially a bad power button) See if it still happens with the KB unplugged.

   I'd start at the keyboard.
   Does it still do this with the keybd unplugged?
   I once had a IIci did this, and it was moisture/dust/corrosion around the adb socket on the mobo...
