CUDA reset switch

   The button they are talking about is no longer referred to as the CUDA but as the PMU (Power Management Unit) reset button. Go to Apple's web site <http://www.apple.com> and do a search in the Knowledge Base on the word "PMU". You will eventually get to a page that tells you where the button is located on your particular model and gives instructions on how to do a reset. I suggest that you print the page and follow its directions carefully.

   FWIW, I don't think resetting the PMU will solve your problem. It sounds more like a disk problem or software conflict that is causing a crash at shutdown. When this occurs, does the reset button work? Have you run a disk repair utility (Norton, TechTool, DiskWarrior)?

   Turns out it was a software problem. But I did find the reset switch - must have worked because it reset my date to 6/27/56. And that didn't solve the problem, but when I disconnected by external CD burner (Iomega Zip CD 650) from the USB hub before shutting down everything works fine!
