Hard drive always wakes up at midnight (OS 9)

  1. I have a PM 8600/300 running OS 9.1, and at midnight exactly, my hard drive wakes up from sleep mode. The odd thing is that the monitor stays asleep. Eventually, everything goes back to sleep again. Does anyone know why it's happening?

  2. Do you have the computer set to synchronize with a network time server? This seems like something that might run once a day at midnight, and it might do some disk access to read prefs or something.

Also, if you have Internet Explorer running, it's going to update your history at midnight (moving "Today" entries to "Yesterday" and so on), which will probably require disk access.

  3. Most likely, Internet Explorer is running. It updates the History file at midnight.
