I have noticed that my Lacie external HD is not spinning down (sleeping) after scheduled, automated shutdown; however, the external HD does spin down after system goes to sleep. How do I automatically force the HD to goto sleep just before system shuts down?
Thanks

To what is this HD connected? And why would you want/need it to spin down? I don't know if it's possible to get it to spin down before the internal HD would.
I have a LaCie external HD as well, and the only way I can get it to spin down is by shutting the system down. The problem with that is that, if I restart the machine, sometimes the external HD won't spin up! This is solved by power-cycling the unit (sometimes several times in a row). Annoying behavior from an otherwise reliable storage device. Good luck!

When I first got my external LaCie, had no problem putting it to sleep when I closed my iBook lid. I forget the precise details, but on waking the iBook, the LaCie didn't spin up and come back online quickly enough, so I'd have to force a reboot by powering cycling. This was with Panther; I haven't tried since I updated to Tiger.

Mine (on Firewire) just spins down when not being actively used. Perhaps it has to do with the "Put hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" setting in the Energy Saver tab of System Preferences.
