iMac G3
OS9.0Sometimes.....when I put it to sleep, screen goes to black, amber light beats, but the hard disc keeps spinning.
When I wake from sleep the finder is frozen.
Any ideas folks ?
Thanks

I've had that problem. It's usually a software conflict of some sort that (for some odd reason) gets called when the computer initiates its sleep sequence (sorry for the sci-fi-ish description; i don't know exactly what happens). The only thing I can recommend is the generic run Norton Disk Doctor and/or Alsoft Diskwarrior to make sure your directory is OK and that your files aren't damaged, or, if this fails to remedy the problem, run conflict catcher's conflict test to see if that's your problem. Tedious and time-consuming, I know, but that's the only thing i can think of.
Andrew.

I recently posted that when I choose "sleep" from the apple menu or the machine goes to sleep after the scheduled interval in the "Energy saver" preference I get a message that "you must now re-start your computer".
Someone said this is a "kernal panic".
I tried it again, and then looked in the "console". The last entry in the console log contains:
plist parse failed: the data is not proper UTF-8.
The problem should be corrected in the plist.
I have no knowledge of what this means nor what corrective steps I should take in the plist.
Would appreciate any help.
TIA

Give the last few entries as a whole instead of an excerpt, and we might be able to determine what program spat the message and infer what plist needs to be touched. We can work from there.

I have an iMac running OS 10.4. Our power went out just as the computer was booting up. I now find that the computer cannot be put to sleep with the Apple menu or the keyboard. The energy saver settings work fine. File sharing is off. ANY suggestion appreciated.
