Power Manager – Scheduler

The scheduler module controls when your Macintosh starts up and shuts down automatically. Using this module your Macintosh can be set to start up or shut down at hourly intervals.

This module contains a table of switches. The table is divided into two distinct groups. The start up and shut down group and the hours group.

Use Balloon Help

The scheduler panel can be confusing to the new user. To aid your use of the table turn on Balloon Help. With Balloon Help each element of the table will be displayed with the time range and day of week it represents.

What Do Those Colours Mean?

Over the next five screen shots we describe what Power Manager will do with various settings on Sunday.

Both of the screen shots to the left are equivalent.

(1) and (2) “Do not start up or shut down automatically on Sundays.

(1) All switches off.

(2) All switches off, except : 8.00 - 8.59am, Sunday.

(3) “Start up at 8.00am each Sunday.

Power Manager will not schedule any shut downs on Sundays with this set-up. If your Macintosh is switched on at 8.00am no action will occur.

(3) Start Up on, 8.00 - 8.59am, Sunday on.

(4) “Shut down at 8.59am each Sunday.

Power Manager will not schedule any start ups on Sundays with this set-up. If your Macintosh is switched off at 8.59am no action will occur.

(4) Shut Down on, 8.00 - 8.59am, Sunday on.

Power Manager - Scheduler Module Screen Shot

Each row represents a day of the week.

(a) Start Up and Shut Down Switches

The start up and shut down switches enable and disable Power Managers actions on the day represented.

If both switches are on then Power Manager can both start up and shut down the machine for that day.

If only the start up switch is on then Power Manager can only start up the machine and not shut down.

If only the shut down switch is on then Power Manager can only shut down the machine and not start up.

(b) The Hourly Switches

Each switch represents a particular hour on a particular day of the week.

NB It is highly recommended that Balloon Help is enabled when working with these switches.

(c) Hourly Menu

This popup menu contains a number of functions to aid the configuration of the hourly switches. All On - All switches to on, All Off - All switches to off, Invert - All switches are toggled.

(d) Table Indicator

The table is arranged from midnight, on the left, to one minute to midnight, on the right. Thus representing a single day. Marked on the table indicator are a range of dividers to aid interpretation of the table.

(e) On and Off Example Switches

Two static switches are displayed under the table. The left switch is set to on. The right switch is set to off. These exist to indicate the relevant colours of each state. Clicking on these switches has no affect on the state of Power Manager.

(f) Example On Switches

In the above screen shot Power Manager has been configured only to start up. This is indicated by the on state of the start up switches for each day of the week, (Monday = top column, Sunday = lowest column). The shut down switches are set to off.

For every weekday including Saturday Power Manager will start up this machine at 9.00am. On Sundays Power Manager will start up at 8.00am.
