Scheduler

Learn about scheduling your Macintosh to switch itself on and off at different times depending on the day of week.

Aim

We need to switch on our Macs at 9.00am every weekday. For two hours during lunch the Macs should be shut down and then started up ready for the afternoon.

The Macs should be start up for a couple of hours at the weekend so that backups may be made.

Walk Through

  1. Load the Power Manager control panel and switch to the Scheduler panel.

If the scheduler panel only displays Friday’s switches then you will need to licence Power Manager before using this tutorial.

Trial edition users can only configure their Macs for Fridays. Licencing Power Manager will enable access to the rest of the week.

  2. Clear the current configuration by selecting ‘All Off’ from the Hourly popup menu (bottom right corner of the scheduler table). Once this has been completed the hourly table will be all off (red).

  3. Clear the current Start Up and Shut Down Switches by clicking each switch until it is off (red). The scheduler is now ready to be configured.

    Configured Scheduler Panel

  4. Switch on (yellow) both Start Up and Shut Down switches for all but Sunday.

This enables Power Manager to both start up and shut down your Macintosh automatically.

  5. Switch on (yellow) 9.00am - 9.59am through 11.00am - 11.59am for Monday.

    Switch on 2.00pm - 2.59pm through 5.00pm - 5.59pm for Monday.

Power Manager will now start up the Macintosh at 9.00am and 2.00am. The Macintosh will shut down automatically both at 11.59am and at 5.59pm.

  6. Duplicate Mondays configuration for each remaining day of the week.

  7. For Saturday switch on (yellow) 11.00am - 11.59am through 1.00pm - 1.59pm.

  8. Quit Power Manager.

Congratulations your Macintosh is now configured and ready for use.
