Here's the set up: Beige G3 266 rev b, 640mb ram, orig 4gb hard drive and internal zip drive (ide). I disconnected the internal zip and installed a Maxtor (model #90648D3) 6gb hard drive there as a slave drive... now when I try to put the system to sleep it locks up... both drives are reading fine, and everything appears to be normal... it was sleeping fine for a while, but now it's reverted back to locking up when I put it to sleep... is there some sort of power manager or something I can reset, or maybe trash a preference or something? Also, it seems that if I leave the computer sitting for a while it locks up.... this all seems to have started when I moved the computer from one room to another.
Any words of advice?
thanks! Brad
Beige G3s have problems with slave IDE drives. Try to reconfigure the drive as a master to see if this is the problem.

You did not mention whether you have added usb to your beige g3, if you do have a usb pci card you will most likely have Apple's USB PCI Card Support 1.4.1 extensions. The USB Device Manager in this set will freeze your computer when it goes into sleep mode. Apple suggests you do not use sleep mode... mtc acer

I don't have a USB pci card installed... although I was considering getting one soon... any other problem extensions I should keep my eye out for?
thanks brad

NOT SO!! I have USB pci card (Keyspan) on a beige G3 and it works and sleeps just fine. USB devices include Epson printer, CD-R disk, flash card reader and cameras (not all at once).
Cautions:
I had to go to OS 9.1 before sleep would work properly with the USB drivers installed. It never worked properly with 8.6 and USB, regardless of the extensions used, so it is more fundamental than just the drivers. With 9.1 there are no problems.
The PPPoE driver (for ADSL) provided by my ISP was Enternet version 1.11 and would give problems if left active during sleep. I upgraded to 1.21 which cured all those problems as well as other Enternet problems, and both Enternet and sleep now work flawlessly.
I haven't tried a USB keyboard - postings here suggest keyboards may have additional problems.
