I have a 15" PowerBook and it has the small while LED light on the front latch. I often set it next to my bed at night, and do not want the LED to pulse on/off in my face. Is there a way to disable it? Can I easily do this, so I can enable it back whenever I want?

Off= wire cutter.
On = soldering iron.
Or, put a sock on it.

A little electrical tape should do it.

Turn the machine off, instead of letting it sleep.
I just put something over the light.

Yeah, but that looks so ugly. You want a nice piece of opaque white freezer tape.

Um, turn it around?
I hate this feature as well... the green LEDs on the Pismos were intrusive enough, but the nasty white ones on the new PBs really bug me.
What I've resorted to: Since this is really only a problem when I'm in a hotel room, I find a card or some other tidbit around and drape it over the front of the PB.
Alternative: opaque black tape. But I don't like the idea of totally hiding the light, since it's really a useful indicator of sleep vs off-ness.

Just wear your sunglasses in bed. That also helps in case paparazzi burst from the closet and start snapping pictures.
