What is the noise that I hear as my iBook wakes from sleep/starts up? It certainly makes more noise than my old G3 iBook. For the life of me the only thing I can think of it resembles is a car revving..!

A kind of whirrr?
My 667 TiBook has always done this. I asked about it here once. The consensus was that it was the CD head moving to its initial position.

Yep sounds the slot load drive noise, which is why the G3 didn't make that noise.

The AlBooks make quite a "springy" sort of noise when they wake up, which I'm sure is for the same reason.
Cheers,
Chris

That happens on all the slot-loaders I have used and none of the tray loaders, so "yes".

It does. Mine sounds like the intro of 'She drives me crazy' by the fine young cannibals.
