I upgraded from 192 to 640 MB RAM in my PB G3 (FireWire) not to long ago. I removed that Apple supplied 64 MB (322) DIMM and put my 128 MB (222) DIMM in the bottom slot. I put the 512 (222) DIMM in the top slot. My battery time dropped from about 2 hours to about 1 hr. So, I figured that it must be the extra RAM using up power, so I decided to try switching out the 512 DIMM for the 64 DIMM to see if battery time would go back to 2 hr. I did not see any improvement in the battery time. I am going to reset the power manager (just looked up how to do that), but I guess I am also wondering, just how long a Li-ion battery is good for? My battery is about 9 months old, and I use it 3-4 times a week.

Check Apple's download section for a battery resetter utility. I get much more life out of each of my 3-year-old WS batteries, and am suspicious of a sudden 50% drop. I'm pretty sure I've got the reset app around here somewhere if you can't find it at Apple.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the Battery Reset utility that I found would not install on my Pismo. Resetting the power manager got me up to 1.5 hours (doesn't seem to matter whether I have the 64 MB DIMM (192 total) or the 512 MB DIMM (640 total) installed) So, I am still in the dark about why my battery time has dropped. Not more than 2 months ago I could get 2 hours out of my system without worrying much. I must have done something, but for the life of me I don't know what.

I've had a similar problem with my Pismo battery, about 1 1/2 year old. It doesn't seem to be RAM related.
I am going to try the power manager, and maybe see if I can find a battery reset utility.
