Reading http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/ it's possibly a reporters conflation of the Apple/Sony/Dell battery issue last year plus the issue Apple have issued the update for.
OTOH, that could just be what Apple are trying to imply as damage limitation to try and avoid another recall. Hard to tell.

I think it is just someone reporting an Apple Software Update. Which is nice of them.

The warped battery issue is an old problem. I got mine replaced around August last year and had to venture around 40 miles or so to pick up the replacement from the UPS depot as it was originally delivered when I was at work. Even then the recall was a few months old.
