One of my MB Pro's, a 15", shuts down without ceremony or warning when the battery level reaches 30%. The machine issues a quiet click, the screen goes black, and it's off.
sounds like the battery may have a defective cell. what happens if you put that battery in a different mbp and a known good battery in the problem mbp?
Or needs to be re-calibrated. But check the battery in the About this Mac->More Info->Hardware->Power->Battery

sudden shutdown is almost always due to a defective cell. as the pack is discharged, the bad cell reverses polarity which causes the voltage of the entire pack to drop below the minimum needed to run the computer, thus it simply shuts off without warning.

Defective battery. Get the battery replaced. It happened to me.
