Here's a weird one that I'm curious to learn if anyone else has seen.
Configuration is as follows:
PB G4/500, Mac OS X 10.1.2, 384MB RAM, 20GB HD
Put system to sleep by selecting "Sleep" from Apple menu, etc.
Wake system some minutes later
Activate any application that invokes sound.
Watch spinning beach ball cursor until Force-Quit invoked.
Doesn't matter what app, as long as it works with sound. Entourage, iTunes, Sound system preference, Sound slider in menu.
Doesn't matter if it's the internal speakers, SoundSticks, or a pair of headphones.
Always does the same thing. I have to restart the Mac to get it to work again.
Anyone else?

Almost. Try inserting and removing a pair of head phones, see if that cures the problem.
