I try to keep up with Apple related news groups and news items but this one must have slipped by me until I received a "Claim Form" from the "Apple Adapter Settlement Claims Administrator" today.
I have read in the past that others have had problems with the so-called yo-yo PA that came with some Powerbooks (and other models). I know that mine failed within 2 years and the $74 replacement also failed within two years. I didn't replace the 2nd PA though, I gutted it, replaced the cable and made a homemade plug (out of a Radio Shack plug) to fit the Powerbook, and it has been working ever since. I didn't know that the problems with the PA's were so widespread the someone had started a class action.
From reading the paperwork sent to me, I guess I fit well within the class action and stand to receive a refund and/or certificate for both PA's.
I am wondering if others have also received this letter and knew that it was coming, or am I the only one who has had his head buried in the sand?
BTW if others are also in the dark about this and would like to know the models and years affected they are:Subject Computers originally sold with covered adapters PowerBook G3 (Firewire) 02/2000 to 01/2001 IBook 07/1999 to 09/2000 IBook (Firewire) 09/2000 to 05/2001
Subject computers originally sold with "Black Brick" power adapters which were replaced with covered adapters in the "Black Brick" recall. PowerBook G3 05/1998 to 05/1999 PowerBook G3 Series 10/1998 to 05/1999The above is paraphrased from "Attachment 1" of the "Settlement of Class Action" that I received today.
