PB won't sleep under OS X or OS 9. I've been updating OS X and many Apple OS X applications, but nothing under OS 9.

Speakable Items is off (something I've read that could keep a PB from sleeping).

No accessories attached.

Battery removed for (possible) re-infusion of li-ion cells (rebuilding).

Other than this insomnia, the computer performs normally.

FYI,

Any ideas?

Thanks,

My Win XP notebook has no such problem with entering sleep mode. Oh I'm sorry you are using Mac OS the OS that "just works".

Winliar, Yup, My Dell inspiron 7500, And my newer Toshiba Satelite will enter sleep. But unfortunately about 50% of the time, they wont wake from it. So yup, XP just works.

Winnie, get a life.

ISTR some people having sleep issues with their PB's after replacing HD's because of magnetic interference with the "sleep detect" switch. You might look for articles in the archives on this issue. I cannot remember whether the problems were dependent upon OS or not, as I never had this particular problem.

This would be worth looking into if the issue was no-sleep when closing the display, but if sleep worked when pressing power key (and then pressing the "S" key). Neither method works for me, so I think the HD-and-sleep reed switch isn't the issue, here.

Have you tried re-installing the OS? That might help.

Might. Might not. I'm posting here to benefit from others' experience before wasting my time running down everywhich road looking for a solution.

Frankly, if you've got the money, X 1.2 is a far superior OS to all the previous releases (of X). I found the interface to feel faster, and the improvements to the mail, address book, and various other programs (printing got MUCH better) to be worth every penny of the discounted for education price that I paid. I mean, if you're going to try re-installing the OS, why not upgrade?

If indeed I end up re-installing, might be worth doing Jaguar. But by then 10.3 (or whatever the next rev is) will probably be out.

Thanks,

"Upon closer examination," as they say, I've noticed that the LCD display backlight turns off when the display lid is closed, but the computer doesn't go to sleep. (The disk drive can still be heard spinning.)

Just another data point...

Any ideas?

On my GF's Pismo ya have to use the little leverer that takes out the CD unit (just yank it out a bit then put it back in) to get it to sleep sometimes ... give it a try J.
