I have the same problem with my G4 Cube and Mac OS X 10.1.2, but the same behavior happened prior to my upgrading the OS from 10.1. Fortunately, this does not happen often, but when it does, it seems my only recourse is to power off the Mac and start it up again. I do not know what the cause is.
