I have a 2 files called com.apple.screensaver.XXXXXXX.plist where XXXXX is a number in ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost (~ for my home directory). I'd try those.
I have four such files, inside a folder called "By Host." I'll try
trashing those, but they appear to be related to the screen effects preferences, not the energy saver preferences. One of them, for example, has the word "beaches" in it, which is the screen effect that I use. Energy saver has its own panel in the system preferences but I don't see an equivalent .plist.

Oh, right. Screensaver. My bad. I can't figure out where the energy saver preferences are either....hmm Could it be in PRAM? Have you tried resetting that? (Cmd-option-P-R on startup).
