Unable to connect to internet after waking from sleep mode

I'm having trouble connecting to the internet via cable modem after waking my eMac from sleep mode running OS 10.2.5. Rebooting the systems restores the internet connection but I'm having to reboot several times per day. The problem started after installing Brickhouse, which I have since removed, but still no fix to the problem. I even tried to reinstall the update for 10.2.5. I would appreciate any suggestions anyone may offer.
