Wallstreet battery question

Only one light comes on, and it flashes. I have heard of "resetting" the battery. Does anyone know how to do that?

I have been given a hand-me-down Wallstreet at work. My first PowerBook. (I had a Duo that I never removed from the dock.) I have two, actually a few questions.

  1. The battery is gone. Only one light comes on, and it flashes. I have heard of "resetting" the battery. Does anyone know how to do that?

  2. In light of the above, they ordered me a new Lithium Ion from Apple. What is the best way to maintain it? Run it all the way down and then charge it up all the way? Or charge it up all the way even if only used partially? What if I run the machine off AC when the battery is partially used? Does it charge up while the machine is running? Or only when it's plugged in to AC and off? Do I need to charge it up before using it for the first time?

Thanks very much for advice, MK

Search the group's archives for exact procedure, but I rather suspect that the battery is at EOL and won't come back. If it's the original battery for that PB it's definitely not coming back. Still, wouldn't hurt to try.

Go here: http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html

Search the group's archives for posts relating to batteries. I've contributed to a fair number of them over the last 4 years, so my name might narrow things down a bit. You'll still find far more than you care to read. A fair chunk of the stuff written about batteries in this group is not entirely accurate, and the vast majority of the rest is duplicated (more-or-less) in the Apple URL above.

It might not be worth it to resurrect this battery, but when they are really dead, you don't even get the one flashing light.
